We previously talked about how to modify the Sun Salutation A sequence, and today we will explore the many amazing benefits that Sun Salutation A provide to the body.
In the previous blog we mentioned how Sun Salutations are a great way to build heat and warm up the body, but what other benefits does this sequence have? Well for starters, when you do a series of them you are getting a great cardio exercise that’s good for the whole body because it fills the body with waves of oxygenated blood which helps to, among other things, eliminate toxins in the body. That alone makes doing sun salutations worth the time and energy expended, but fortunately this is not the only benefit.
Here’s a few more of many of the other benefits to doing sun salutations:
- Increased blood circulation
- Lubricates the joints
- More flexibility
- Tones the body
- Increases strength
- Boosts energy
- Calms the nervous system
- Helps you relax the mind and become more centered – it can become almost like a meditation or like prayer in motion
- Aids in weight loss
- Improves digestion
- Boosts immunity
- Improves kidney function
- Releases tension in the major muscles like the hamstrings, shoulders, and chest
- Lengthens the spine
- Releases tension in the spine
So many amazing reasons to do Sun Salutations. And in case you missed the blog from earlier this month on how to modify Sun Salutations, be sure to check it out…Sun Salutations are very accessible so if you find them difficult, try them with a few modifications. Over time, as your body becomes stronger and more flexible you may find you can do Sun Salutations with fewer or with different modifications.
Regardless of whether you do them with modifications or not though, they are a must do for your yoga practice. There are just too many benefits to ignore them. So, add a few to your morning or evening routine or make them a part of your normal yoga practice if you have one. And just observe all the ways in which your body thanks you. Namaste!
