Chair & Restorative Training


30 hour Yoga Teacher Training in Chair and Restorative Yoga.  This two weekend curriculum combines in class time (via Zoom) as well as independent study time, and practice teaching time (both as a class and on your own).  Previous yoga certifications are not required, but it is preferred.

Course content:

1.     Instructor-led lessons via Zoom on topics such as:

a.     Brief history of yoga in general

b.     Poses

c.      Props and modifications

d.     Benefits

e.     Contraindications

f.      Class flows/Teaching Methodologies

g.     Meditation

h.     Breath work

i.       Target audiences

j.       Business of Yoga

2.     Zoom sessions for practice teaching with the class for each

3.     Planning and prep time for practice teaching sessions

4.     Practice teaching with friends and family

5.     Journaling and other homework

6.     Exam and sample Teaching videos 

What you will learn:

·       Why Chair Yoga is important and the many benefits it has to offer students

·       How to develop your own unique Chair Yoga sequences and classes that meet the specific needs of your students

·       Gain knowledge of proven Teaching Methodologies that provide a framework for safe and effective classes 

·       Study modifications and precautions for common conditions and issues in various student populations

Required Texts (you purchase these on your own in advance of the start of the course):

·       Chair Yoga by Kristin McGee

·       Relax and Renew by Judith Hanson Lasater

Other supplies needed for the course:

  • 2 chairs that are suitable for Chair Yoga. (Folding chairs can be versatile. Flat seated wooden chairs such as kitchen chairs work well too.  It’s good to have at least one chair with no arms.)
  • 2 blocks
  • 1 strap
  • 2-3 Blankets or large towels
  • Pillow
  • Eye pillow (optional)
  • Yoga mat or carpeted space
  • Bolster (we can also improvise if you don’t have one)
  • Computer or device to join Zoom sessions
  • Journal or notebook
  • Required texts (listed above)

Two weekends total (one weekend for each)

Dates – March 6-7 and March 20-21

Zoom schedule each weekend:

First day:

9-11:30 am Zoom session

12:30-4 pm Zoom session

Office hours from 4-5 pm for questions, etc.

Second day:

1-3  pm Zoom session to practice teach

Breakdown of the 30 hours:

·       14 total hours of instructor-led lessons & discussions via Zoom 

·       4 hours practice teaching as a class via Zoom 

·       4 hours for reading, journaling, self-study, and homework 

·       4 hours of practice teaching your family and friends 

·       2 hours for planning & prep for your practice teaching sessions 

·       2 hours for exam and final teaching video

Payment in full is required prior to the first day of class in order for your registration to be complete.  No refunds will be issued after March 1st.
