July Wellness Challenges

The Yoga Challenge

What: Child’s Pose Challenge

When: July 1-31, 2021

How:  Before going to bed each night, spend 1-2 mins in your favorite version of child’s pose.  While in the pose, allow your body to relax and breathe, letting go of your day.  Notice how you feel after doing this for a few days…for a few weeks.  Do you find you are sleeping better? Sleeping longer?  Waking up less in the middle of the night?  Feeling less anxious in general?  Just notice how a minute or two in this simple pose can help you feel better.

Why:

1.     Because everyone loves child’s pose.

2.     Because we all could use a good night of sleep more regularly.

3.     Because this challenge is simple and easy!

4.     Because you are worth it.

The Nutrition Challenge

What: Dairy-free Challenge

When: July 1-31, 2021

How:

1.     Try eliminating (or at least reducing) your intake of conventional dairy products (especially milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, and ice cream).  You can stop cold turkey or remove one item at a time throughout the month.

2.     Notice as the days go by when you aren’t consuming anything made from cow’s milk, how your body feels.  Do you feel less bloated?  Do you notice that you have less excess flehm?  Did you previously have any skin irritations or conditions that begin to clear up?  Does your irritable bowel feel less agitated?

3.     Try substituting plant-based milks, yogurts, etc. if you feel you need these products and again notice how your body feels when you consume those instead of your usual dairy products.

4.     This is an awareness challenge…so allow for some time to notice how you feel when you remove conventional dairy from your diet and then decide what if any permanent changes you want to make at the end of the month.

Why:

1.     Because cow milk contains lots of cow hormones that wreak havoc on our human hormones.

2.     Because, for many people, lactose can also create issues in their bodies.

3.     Because reducing inflammation in our bodies is a good thing.

4.     Because you never know until you try.
